The swordsmiths of Hakata produced excellent Japanese swords called Chikuzen-Tou during the Heian period (794 - 1185). During the Kamakura period (1185 - 1333), they prospered due to the Samonji school where they learned from the sword master Masamune. Before long, their extensive skills created an all-purpose kitchen knife which retains the superb characteristics of Japanese swords.
The kitchen knife, which is the origin of the Hakata Knife, is known for its excellent sharpness that can be used for everything ranging from seafood such as sea bream and yellowtail, to meat such as wild boar and chicken.
Having inherited the traditional technique and extreme sharpness of the Japanese sword, the Hakata Knife by Chikuzen encompasses the functionality that matches well with contemporary dining lifestyle. It is rust-resistant, easy to sharpen, and can be used as a favorite tool of a lifetime.
